A clear path through
business disputes.
Unpaid invoices. Broken agreements. Decisions that can’t wait. We help you understand your position and take a considered next step.
Let’s discuss your matterAn agreement should
mean something.
When a business obligation goes unmet, the right response starts with understanding the facts. Our initial focus is helping businesses address unpaid debts and work toward resolution.
01 /Understand your position
Matter & document review
We review the agreement, the payment history, and the correspondence to understand the obligation and identify practical options. You get a clearer basis for deciding what to do next.
- Contracts & invoices
- Payment records
- Business correspondence
02 /Make your position clear
Attorney demand letters
A focused demand letter sets out the obligation, explains your position, and requests a response. The attorney reviews the matter and prepares the letter within the scope of your engagement.
- Overdue invoices
- Unpaid contract balances
- Missed settlement payments
03 /Work toward resolution
Negotiation & next steps
When the other side responds, we can help assess the proposal and negotiate a path forward. If the matter remains unresolved, we discuss the available next steps and the scope of any additional representation.
- Settlement discussions
- Payment arrangements
- Escalation assessment

What does limited-scope representation mean?
It means agreeing to a defined piece of legal work, such as a document review, a demand letter, or a negotiation. The engagement agreement explains what the attorney will handle and what falls outside that scope. Any additional work is discussed separately.
Do I need to commit to a lawsuit?
An initial engagement can focus on understanding the matter or seeking a resolution before litigation. If court proceedings become a consideration, we discuss the options, costs, and scope of any additional representation with you.
How are fees agreed?
The scope and applicable fees are set out in an engagement agreement before work begins. Any additional services, court costs, or other expenses are addressed as part of the relevant engagement.
Can you help with a matter outside New York?
Tell us where the parties are located and where the matter arises. Whether the firm can take a matter depends on the jurisdiction, the attorney’s admission, the nature of the work, and conflicts. Contact us to discuss the specific circumstances.
How does Pactstone work with StepCounsel?
Pactstone is an independent law firm. StepCounsel is a separate technology platform that helps coordinate intake and the steps of a matter. When you engage legal help through StepCounsel, your engagement materials identify the attorney and firm responsible for the legal work.
